Firstly and importantly the question many may ask is – does a Gas Engineer have a future? Will there still be a call for gas engineers given the focus on Renewable Energy?
The short answer is, of course, yes. Consider this: The ban on gas appliances in new builds comes into force in 2025, and the UK will ban the sale of new gas boilers altogether by 2035.
Given the investment in new (renewable) technologies and the decline in gas usage (due to rising prices as well as environmental pressures), the sale of gas boilers will drop to an estimated half a million a year by 2035.
That will still lead to 6.5 million boilers being installed until the ban. In which case, 15 million boilers will need servicing each year.
Also, heat pumps (for example) will not suit every situation. But for those they do, someone needs to fit them. And gas trained heating engineers are best equipped to do just that.
When you look at the rest of Europe, the UK lags far behind in heat pump installations. However, as this changes, gas and heating engineers will need to decommission and replace old appliances as well as instal the new alternatives.
In summary, Gas Engineers will be in demand for quite some time to come and be best placed to move across into Renewable Energy when the time is right.
Please note that all examinations and assessments are conducted by an accredited external organisation.
Upon successful completion of the course you will have attained the knowledge, skills and qualifications needed to gain employment and lawfully operate as a domestic gas engineer, as well as a qualification in Air Source and Ground Source Heat Pumps. At this point you could consider undertaking additional ACS training to work on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or to work on industrial/commercial gas installations. You could also undertake training in unvented hot water heating systems and environmental technologies e.g. solar hot water etc.
Gas engineers demand a high salary and rightly so – it remains a hugely rewarding career with many opportunities for advancement and progression
It doesn’t matter how old you are, or if you have any experience with choosen field. We are ready to provide you with our full support on your way to become a trades professional.
Here you can check what our students say about our courses:
Plumber is an oft used umbrella term but plumbing today embraces a multitude of talents and often provides a springboard to other trades (such as Renewables and Gas). It is one of the reasons plumbers are in such high demand.
The most comprehensive Electrical training courses in the UK can be found here. Our trainers have decades of electrical experience backed-up by many years teaching and practical training experience.
Many will think welding as a dirty, perhaps unattractive career. That may have been the case a few decades ago, but time and the industry itself have moved on and in to the 21st Century. New technologies and skills (like plastics welding) are emerging all the time.
If there was one ‘bullet-proof’ career in the trades sector, now and for the foreseeable future, this is surely as a Renewable Energy specialist. The renewable sector is fast growing, with energy conservation and carbon saving an increasing concern for consumers looking to save money and the planet.
